Wills & Estate Planning
Mateer Harbert's estate planning
work, from the preparation of wills to the drafting and formulation
of trust agreements, focuses on the development and implementation
of comprehensive plans for the orderly distribution and transfer
of property and assets with minimum income, estate and gift
tax consequences. Estate planning advice often uses lifetime
or testamentary trusts to accomplish clients' interests. When
estate taxes are an issue, the firm prepares estimates of
tax liability and recommends solutions such as gifting, credit
shelter trusts, marital trusts and charitable trusts. Mateer Harbert also represents clients in probate and guardianship
matters (including contested issues) and advises in the effective
use of durable powers of attorney and other advance directives.
