in all federal and state courts and before administrative
agencies. Services include the acquisition of certificates
of need for the expansion of medical services, preparing and
handling transactional matters involved in hospital construction
and financing, preparation of contracts among health care
providers and defense of professional liability claims.
Mateer Harbert also counsels clients
in areas such as advice on compliance with federal and state
laws affecting health care providers, implementation and proper
operation of risk management departments, appropriate quality
assurance guidelines, preparation of medical staff bylaws
and policies and procedures for the operation, planning and
implementation of appropriate credentialing criteria for physician
evaluation.
The firm's attorneys also advise individual
physician clients concerning patient confidentiality and access
to medical records and appear before regulatory boards and
agencies on a variety of administrative matters.
Mateer Harbert has considerable experience
analyzing federal and Florida regulatory issues, including,
but not limited to those involving Medicare/Medicaid fraud
and abuse, patient self-referral, clinical laboratories and
managed care.
In addition, the firm regularly participates
in the planning and presentation of continuing medical education
seminars on health care law for administrators, risk managers
and physicians.
